I had a friend bring it to my attention today that she didn’t know what a true tone ringtone was. I quickly righted the situation. A true tone ringtone is a song by an artist as it was recorded, produced and released on an album that has been cut down to fit the time frame of a ringtone but hasn’t lost any of the quality of the song its self. If you get a polyphonic version of a song instead of getting the song its self, chances are the lyrics are lost, the melody was played on a synthesiser and it is an annoying representation of what was a great piece of music. You can recognize the tune, but usually just barely. Sometimes it’ll take you a few phone calls to even remember who wrote it or where it came from if the version is particularly loose in its translation.
I don’t know why downloading polyphonic versions of songs ever became popular in the first place. Why have a knock off when you can get the actual song for the same downloading fee? Do you want your phone to sound like it is streaming songs from today through an old cheese grater? Because it what a lot of the polyphonic imitation versions of songs sound like. We look for quality in purchasing a cell phone (and other electronic entertainment devices), so why should choosing a ringtone be any different?
If the song you want for your ringtone can’t be downloaded to your phone because it has not reached ringtone status, due to copyright issues, legal problems or whatever reasons, there are two solutions: firstly, you could get one of those phones that allows you to record your own ringtones and record from the album. You may lose a little of the sound quality, but it will usually sound better than the knock-offs. Secondly, if your phone doesn’t have this ability, choose a different song. I’m sure you like more than one song, and I’m sure that you don’t want to settle for a mangled version of one song you like when you could get a true tone version of another song you like instead for the same downloading fee. I know I wouldn’t. Some people are really touchy when it comes to wrecking popular music, so be that person with the great ringtone rather than that person with the great song knock-off ringtone that drives people insane.
