Downloadable Ring Tones

In this lifetime, is there anything that is actually free? According to the Internet, there is!

This websites boasts that about two hundred downloadable ring tones can be downloaded in MIDI and WAV formats. These polyphonic ring tones can claim to be suitable for modern mobile brands, and the WAV format tones are available for smartphones.

Sounds too good to pass up, doesn’t it? So I gave it a try. I hit the WAV files and did a random search, setting on The Simpsons Remix 2. When I clicked the preview link, I was taken to a page that had basic statistics about the ring tone: date added, WAP ID, download credits required, file type, popularity, file size, tags and rating.

Hold up. What in the world is a WAP ID? Should I know this? Also, it is kind of alarming that 624 people have downloaded it, and yet no one has given it a rating. And then my options at the bottom of the page: Download to PC or Add to Favourites. A-ha! I have found the gold mine in this supposedly ring tone downloading service.

It appears to be that in order to get downloadable cellphone ring tones, I will need to download it to my computer. And how do I get it from my computer to my telephone? By purchasing equipment with which to perform this task, no doubt. And will this equipment be free of charge? I don’t think so. The ring tone is a great invention, but getting it on your phone isn’t easy unless you use the right site.

Back to that whole WAP ID mumbo jumbo. I am informed, “To download this file directly to your mobile phone from WAP, you have to follow complicated instructions. Okay, I’ll give you the fact that downloading to the cell phone directly is a step in the right direction – no wires or removable memory cards to buy in order to transfer the ring tone from point a to b to c. Brilliant. There’s only one problem.

To use the internet on my cell phone, I assume it costs money; otherwise, I’d use it as my primary internet source to avoid paying for internet services. If it is not free to use the internet, I find it difficult to enter pin numbers into my phone without using the internet. The downloable cellphone ring tones are still technically easy, but getting it on your phone still isn’t until you use our service.

If you are willing to pay for the gadgets or internet fees to get these rings tones, they are at a cheap deal. But nothing is ever free, and if the general public ever completely understood this point, marketing strategies would plummet.
