When you type “Cellular Ring Tones” into a Google search, you are immediately bombarded with 1, 370, 000 results of web pages containing those words, and most of them are advertising free (or nearly free) ring tone downloads. These ring tones lead to wallpaper downloads, logos and java games, all readily available and waiting for you on the great wide interweb.
What a colossal waste of time. The truly sane spend the first day or so worshiping the newfound technology of their cellular telephone, changing things around to be more workable or looking/sounding decent, and then move on. And yet, many people spend countless hours downloading the latest hit song or installing simple games with which to occupy their time. These games, ranging from Tetras to Texas Hold’em, draw the cell phone user in and make them oblivious to the world around them. There are cell phones that play music, stream television and do everything but make you a cup of coffee (although I’m sure that someone is working on the technology as we speak). Why, in our bigger-is-better culture, would you want to watch any sort of programming on a screen that can fit in the palm of your hand?
In the grand scheme of things, how important is it that for your cell phone to have a teeny-tiny photo of the latest celebrity as the wall paper and the newest track of preference as the ring tone? It doesn’t. But life should be lived in the details, or so they say. Just don’t make a habit out of it. If you are sitting at a real poker table but you are distracted by playing poker on your mobile, it’s time to delete the game and get a life.
More fashion-knowledgeable folks would roll their eyes are me in that, “She just doesn’t understand how things really work” sort of way. Obviously, a cell phone is just another accessory in social status. I mean, you can get mini cell phones to hang off your actual cell phone and dirtymicrobe.com! When people start feeling the need to accessorize their accessories, I draw the line.
I guess what I am trying to get at is that too much worry over getting a great ring tone is the first step on a slippery slope to being the person who invents micro cell phones to hang on their mini cell phones, which hang on the actual cell phone. I pray that natural selection takes care off any and all nitwits that would pay to have this item by the time someone gets around to patenting it.
